This is an original Vicky Tiel Couture gown from 1987 — the same signature design that was later recreated for Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. For collectors, that detail matters: this isn’t a “Pretty Woman inspired” dress, it’s the real designer’s couture work from the era that defined the look.

Vicky Tiel’s ruched stretch mesh gowns are a big part of her fashion history (and film history). The construction is doing a lot of heavy lifting here: a strapless sweetheart neckline, internal corsetry to shape and hold, and dense draping through the bodice and hips that creates the hourglass silhouette. The fabric gathers at the waist into a front sash that drops into a floor-length skirt, with extra length in back for a dramatic sweep.

Similar dresses have been worn by Jill Biden and her granddaughter Finnegan Biden, further cementing its place in American fashion history.
