Christian Dior by John Galliano S/S 2005 Ballet Pink Bias-Cut Evening Gown
A beautifully romantic Galliano piece, this gown revisits one of the designer’s most enduring signatures: the bias cut. Galliano created his first statement bias-cut evening gown in 1988, and the technique became a leitmotif throughout his career, closely associated with his vision of fluid, body-conscious femininity.
Cut diagonally across the weave, the bias allows the fabric to stretch naturally, skim the body, and fall with extraordinary softness. The technique was famously pioneered by Madeleine Vionnet in the late 1920s and early 1930s, and Galliano returned to it again and again, transforming it through his own romantic, theatrical language.
Rendered here in a delicate ballet pink, the gown features a deep V neckline, wide shoulder straps, a long lean silhouette, diagonal panel construction through the body, and a soft cascading hem that moves beautifully.
