An exceptional Chanel gold lion minaudière from Karl Lagerfeld’s Pre-Fall 2009 “Paris-Moscou” Métiers d’Art collection. This crystal-embellished Leo clutch is one of the collection’s distinctive statement accessories, combining Chanel’s signature symbolism with the elaborate craftsmanship and imperial Russian influences that defined the season.

Presented in Paris at Théâtre Le Ranelagh, the Paris-Moscou collection explored Gabrielle Chanel’s historical connection with Russia, particularly her relationship with Grand Duke Dmitri Pavlovich. Lagerfeld drew inspiration from Byzantine jewelry, Fabergé eggs, the Ballets Russes, and Slavic folklore, translating these references into richly embellished garments and accessories.

The minaudière features a sculptural gold-plated metal body with a lion’s head adorned with individually set crystals. The lion, representing Gabrielle Chanel’s Leo zodiac sign, was one of her most personal and enduring symbols. The design is complemented by gold leather, a delicate kiss-lock closure, and a luxurious silk-lined interior. Its compact, jewelry-like construction reflects the intricate metalwork and decorative techniques celebrated in Chanel’s Métiers d’Art collections.
