Chanel Haute Couture 1961 Coco Beige Red Blue Tweed Jacket Skirt Suit

Price upon request

Condition: GOOD

Magnificent Chanel Haute Couture tweed jacket and skirt ensemble from the Coco Chanel era, dating to 1961. Crafted in beige linen tweed with raspberry red and navy-blue braided trims, this museum-worthy suit is one of the most iconic Chanel designs in fashion history.

An identical suit was famously worn by Elizabeth Taylor during her visit to Moscow, and by Princess Paola of Belgium for her son Philippe’s first birthday celebration. The design is also featured on the cover of Karl Lagerfeld’s short film The Return, starring Géraldine Chaplin. Another example, donated by Queen Paola, is held in the permanent collection of MoMu and was exhibited in The Chanel Legend. The suit also appears in Chanel: The Impossible Collection and was highlighted in the Gabrielle Chanel. Fashion Manifesto exhibition at Palais Galliera.

The jacket is a perfect expression of Chanel’s early 1960s couture codes: softly structured, elegant, and quietly powerful. It features shimmering beige linen tweed, raspberry and navy braided trims, four front pockets, signature gold lion buttons referencing Gabrielle Chanel’s Leo zodiac sign, and chic bracelet-length sleeves. The matching high-waisted pleated skirt falls to a classic midi length, completing the refined silhouette.
